People & Culture Business Partner

About the role

The People & Culture Business Partner will support SMEC’s HR strategy in Bloemfontein, delivering best‑practice HR policies and solutions aligned with business objectives. This hands‑on role partners with managers to drive talent acquisition, employee relations and engagement across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and apply the SMEC HR strategy to regional functions.
• Lead HR programmes and projects, ensuring compliance with local employment law.
• Manage end‑to‑end talent acquisition using HR Shared Services.
• Provide guidance to managers and employees on employee‑relations matters, including complex disciplinary and grievance cases.
• Oversee onboarding, annual reviews, compensation programmes and payroll actions.
• Drive employee engagement and wellness initiatives.
• Maintain HR administration such as org charts, staff records and leave management.
• Report HR data, trends and strategies at regional MANCO meetings.
• Standardise HR systems regionally and monitor service level agreements.

Required profile

• HR degree or equivalent qualification.
• At least 10 years of HR experience.
• Strong project‑management capability.
• Detail‑oriented with the ability to take initiative and responsibility.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective problem‑solving and time‑management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.

• Proficiency in MS Office.
