Pastry Commis Chef – Full-time in Cape Town

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Pastry Commis Chef to join our kitchen team at AccorHotel in Cape Town. The role focuses on developing pastry skills through daily practice while supporting the culinary team to deliver high‑quality dishes.

Key responsibilities

• Attend daily shift briefings, communicate with supervisors and promote a professional, fun work environment.
• Maintain personal hygiene, keep knives and tools clean, and follow the Food Safety Programme.
• Ensure kitchen areas are tidy, adopt a “clean as you go” approach and perform deep cleaning using approved products.
• Manage stock by rotating inventory in chillers using FIFO, label items correctly and complete accurate storeroom requisitions.
• Participate in formal and on‑the‑job training, complete all assigned modules on the Ines platform.
• Minimise waste, record spoilage on the Winnow system and assist with departmental stock‑taking.
• Prepare and check mise en place, cook and serve food to high quality and safety standards, and follow temperature guidelines.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties assigned by the kitchen manager.

Required profile

• Strong passion for food and a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
• At least 1 year of experience in a food production environment.
• Food Hygiene and Safety training completed.
• Driven to succeed and develop culinary skills.

Required skills

• FIFO stock rotation and proper labeling.
• Use of the Winnow waste‑tracking system.
