Pack Shed Supervisor

About the role

An agricultural operation in East London, Eastern Cape, is looking for a hands-on, energetic and responsible supervisor to oversee greenhouse production and pack shed operations. The successful candidate ensures that staff, quality, productivity and daily processes run efficiently. This is a physically demanding, hands-on position, not a desk job.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily greenhouse and pack shed operations
• Allocate and manage staff according to daily requirements
• Monitor quality and quantity of work performed by employees
• Ensure production and packing targets are achieved
• Identify and improve inefficient processes and workflows
• Conduct time studies and monitor labour productivity
• Improve job efficiencies and reduce unnecessary downtime
• Coordinate harvesting, packing, movement and dispatch of produce
• Assist with logistics and daily production planning
• Train and motivate staff and maintain discipline
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, quality and safety
• Report production issues and progress to management

Required profile

• A strong leader and good people manager
• Organised and production-focused, quality-conscious and detail-oriented
• Good at solving problems and managing pressure
• Comfortable in a fast-paced agricultural environment
• Previous agricultural, greenhouse or pack shed experience is an advantage

Physical requirements include standing for long periods, working in hot and humid greenhouse conditions, bending, lifting and carrying produce and materials, assisting staff with physical tasks, and working longer hours during busy harvesting and packing periods.
