Nursery Phase Teaching Assistant

About the role

The University of Cape Town is looking for a Nursery Phase Teaching Assistant (payclass 3, permanent post) for the UCT Educare Centre, within the Estates and Custodial Services Division of the Properties and Services Department. The post suits a qualified Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher who enjoys a dynamic, vibrant and energetic environment. Only suitable candidates will be contacted for an interview.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with teaching, care, supervision, stimulation, interaction and classroom management.
• Help provide care for the children and maintain health and safety.
• Support the teacher in implementing the learning programme.
• Monitor progress and contribute verbally to reports.
• Administer first aid.
• Maintain classroom hygiene: sanitising toys, wiping down beds and tables, sweeping and mopping.

Required profile

• NQF 1 in ECD.
• At least 2 years of relevant teaching experience in an ECD environment.
• Paediatric first aid certificate, updated every 2 years.
• Willingness to undergo a vetting process for suitability to work with children.
• Knowledge of ECD theory and practice, the whole-child approach, NCF-ELDA's and the principles and aims of ECD.
• Advantageous: basic computer skills, SACE certification and NCF certificate.

The annual cost of employment is between R209,956 and R247,004.
