Medical Underwriter – Fixed Term (12 months)

About the role

This is a 12‑month fixed‑term position reporting to the Operations Manager – Underwriting. The Medical Underwriter will provide compliant medical underwriting support primarily for telephonic sales, while also assisting claims and service functions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide telephonic medical underwriting support for new business and renewals.
• Review referred underwriting quotes and communicate medical declines to clients.
• Handle policy amendments that involve underwriting changes.
• Support the claims process and ensure quality assurance across underwriting activities.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year of experience with straightforward procedures or systems.
• 2–3 years of medical underwriting experience, preferably with a nursing or medical background.
• Experience in financial distribution sales and servicing within a call‑centre environment.
• Undergraduate or honours degree, or a diploma with at least 2 years related experience.
• Behavioural competencies such as accountability, decision quality, and customer focus.
