Mechanical Engineer – HVAC Design & Consulting

About the role

WSP is expanding its Mechanical Services team and seeks a Mechanical Engineer focused on HVAC design for building services projects. The role involves delivering technical solutions from concept through to project closeout, supporting a diverse client base.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HVAC design, including heat‑load and ventilation calculations, using local and international standards.
• Develop design documentation, tender packages and Bills of Quantities.
• Specify and approve specialist equipment and coordinate with contractors.
• Maintain client relationships and provide tailored engineering solutions.
• Manage project scope, schedule and cost while ensuring quality delivery.
• Support senior engineers on complex or high‑value projects.

Required profile

• B.Eng., B.Sc. Eng. or B.Tech. Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years experience in building services consulting.
• Familiarity with South African National Standards (SANS) and knowledge of British Standards or ASHRAE is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and lead small project teams.

Required skills

• HVAC design and heat‑load/ventilation calculations.
• Proficiency with HAP, Loadest and IES software.
• Experience using AutoCAD, Revit and BIM360.
• Manual psychrometric analysis.
• Preparation of tender documents and Bills of Quantities.
• Contractor and contract management within the mechanical discipline.
