Mechanical Design Engineer – Product Development

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Product Development team in Johannesburg. You will be responsible for taking mechanical concepts from initial design through to manufacturing, ensuring robust, cost‑effective solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and complete systems.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and bill of materials.
• Participate in concept studies, feasibility analyses, and prototype testing.
• Perform engineering calculations and basic finite‑element analysis (FEA).
• Apply DFM/DFA principles to optimise manufacturability and cost.
• Collaborate with production, procurement, and quality teams.
• Support prototype builds, testing, and product validation.
• Maintain compliance with engineering standards and specifications.
• Drive continuous improvement of existing products and processes.

Required profile

• BEng/BTech or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design or product development.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, NX or similar CAD tools.
• Good understanding of GD&T and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with sheet‑metal, machining, fabrication or injection moulding.
• Knowledge of DFM/DFA and basic FEA.
