Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services (PrEng)

About the role

BVi Consulting Engineers is looking for a Professional Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services across healthcare, commercial, retail and other infrastructure projects. You will work within a multidisciplinary consulting team, ensuring technical excellence from concept through to commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Design and coordinate HVAC, wet services, fire protection, medical gas, LPG and vertical transportation systems.
• Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, reports and technical documentation.
• Support concept design, feasibility studies and detailed design development.
• Ensure compliance with SANS codes, regulations and client requirements.
• Produce tender and construction documentation and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
• Conduct site inspections, review contractor shop drawings and respond to technical queries during construction.
• Assist with testing, commissioning, as‑built drawings and operation & maintenance manuals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or BSc Eng).
• Registered Professional Engineer (PrEng) with ECSA.
• 5–8 years of experience in mechanical building services, preferably in healthcare, commercial or retail projects.
• Experience with multidisciplinary consulting teams and project coordination.
