Mechanical Design Engineer – Automotive Industry

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our automotive product development team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will contribute to the full product lifecycle, from concept creation through to production, ensuring high‑quality, cost‑effective solutions for automotive components.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop automotive products, components, and assemblies.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
• Participate in concept development, prototyping, and validation testing.
• Conduct engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and design reviews.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing, tooling, quality, and project teams.
• Ensure designs comply with automotive standards and customer requirements.
• Support continuous improvement and cost‑optimisation initiatives.
• Prepare technical documentation and reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree / BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong academic record or proven industry success.
• 2–8 years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
• Experience in automotive or related manufacturing environments is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Proficiency in CATIA.
• Proficiency in Siemens NX.
• Proficiency in Inventor.
