Maintenance Technician – Rail Rolling Stock

About the role

Gibela is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join its Services department at the KwaZulu‑Natal depot. The role provides corrective technical maintenance support for rolling stock during warranty periods and guides customers on post‑warranty maintenance, ensuring performance targets are met.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Engineering Department to analyse train‑related faults and propose maintenance solutions.
• Guide drivers and fleet managers in resolving emergencies during service operations.
• Coach and train customers on contractual maintenance procedures.
• Prepare trains for service through functional testing and the use of diagnostic methods such as Condition‑Based Fault Monitoring (CFM) and on‑board computerised equipment.
• Report defects identified during commercial service to generate service orders.
• Troubleshoot and repair Gibela rolling stock in compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Perform manual tasks and, when required, work on powered‑up trains while adhering to strict safety controls.
• Conduct high‑speed testing and deploy trains to other depots as needed.
• Attend regular team briefings to report progress.

Required profile

• Relevant technical qualifications and experience in rail or rolling‑stock maintenance.
• Ability to work safely on powered‑up trains and follow health, safety and quality procedures.
• Strong aptitude for coaching and training customers on maintenance processes.
