Maintenance Millwright

About the role

The client, a leading plastic packaging manufacturer, is seeking a Maintenance Millwright to ensure optimal plant availability, safety, and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, fault‑finding and repairing mechanical and electromechanical equipment across the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, motors, valves, bearings, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on mechanical and basic electrical systems according to OEM specifications.
• Install, align and commission machinery; conduct vibration checks, alignment and condition monitoring tasks.
• Execute breakdown analysis for incidents exceeding 15 minutes and maintain hand tools and toolbox.
• Record all work, inspections and parts usage in the CMMS and assist with root‑cause analysis of recurring issues.
• Support continuous‑improvement initiatives to boost equipment reliability and efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, LOTOTO, permit‑to‑work, confined‑space, working‑at‑heights and live‑electrical procedures.
• Perform statutory inspections on equipment and building structures and promptly report any defects.

Required profile

• Matric Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Millwright Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal).
• 1–5 years post‑trade experience in a manufacturing or processing environment.
• NQF Level 5 qualification with an electrical focus.
• Proven problem‑solving ability with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault‑finding skills and effective computer literacy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, high attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
