Maintenance Assistant

About the role

The Maintenance Assistant supports mechanical maintenance activities in a heavy‑engineering plant, helping to minimise downtime and extend equipment life. Working under the Mechanical Maintenance Foreman, the role provides hands‑on assistance with breakdown repairs, planned maintenance and lubrication across the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Assist artisans with breakdown repairs and scheduled maintenance tasks.
• Execute the plant’s lubrication programme for paper machines, gearboxes, motors, compressors, forklifts, generators and related equipment.
• Monitor compressed‑air plants and report any abnormalities.
• Report equipment noises, risks or potential failures to the maintenance team.
• Support quality repair activities to prevent re‑work and ensure tasks are completed correctly the first time.
• Follow weekly maintenance plans and instructions from the Mechanical Maintenance Foreman.

Required profile

• Practical, reliable and proactive individual with experience in heavy‑engineering or continuous manufacturing environments.
• Willingness to work to maintenance plans, follow instructions accurately and maintain high housekeeping and safety standards.
• Commitment to World Class Manufacturing maintenance practices.
