Level 2 Quality Control Inspector – Steel Fabrication

About the role

We are a steel processing company seeking a motivated Level 2 Quality Control Inspector to join our Johannesburg team. You will be responsible for ensuring that incoming materials, in‑process components and finished products meet our strict quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct incoming, in‑process and final quality inspections.
• Inspect fabricated components and finished products against drawings and specifications.
• Perform dimensional inspections and verify measurements.
• Carry out visual inspections of welds and overall fabrication workmanship.
• Verify material identification, traceability and associated documentation.
• Identify, record and report non‑conforming products and raise Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs).
• Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate quality documentation.
• Review NDT reports and coordinate third‑party inspections when required.
• Collaborate with Production, Fabrication, Engineering and Quality teams.
• Assist in root‑cause investigations and support corrective actions.

Required profile

• NQF Level 4 (Grade 12) with Maths and a relevant degree.
• Level 2 NDT certification in one or more methods (advantageous).
• 3–5 years of QC experience in steel fabrication, including estimation work.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
• Knowledge of welding inspection and fabrication quality requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent documentation skills.

Required skills

• Level 2 NDT certification.
• Dimensional inspection and use of measuring equipment.
• Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook proficiency.
• Reading and interpreting engineering/fabrication drawings.
• Welding inspection techniques.
• Quality control standards and non‑conformance reporting.
