Learner Operator - Grain Handling

About the role

VKB Group is looking for motivated learners in its agricultural and grain handling business in Douglas, Northern Cape. The position suits people who are eager to learn, take initiative and build a career in the industry; candidates should be responsible, reliable, safety conscious and able to work well in a team. The role is permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with grain receiving, handling, drying and storage operations.
• Monitor the flow of grain continuously and report irregularities.
• Assist with grain grading and sampling under supervision.
• Monitor grain dryer performance and moisture levels to maintain grain quality.
• Conduct grain fumigation as instructed and supervised.
• Monitor grain tube temperatures and report deviations to the Supervisor.
• Measure grain stock levels according to company policies and safety regulations.
• Operate silo equipment and grain handling systems according to VKB policies and procedures.
• Assist with operating conveyors, bucket elevators, augers and related equipment.
• Perform routine inspections, housekeeping and cleaning of silo, dryer and grain handling equipment.
• Maintain accurate operational and stock records and comply with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Provide general assistance and ad hoc duties as required by management.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) or NQF 4.
• No experience required.
• Certificate in Grain Grading and Grain Fumigation is advantageous.
