Community Conservation Senior Manager

About the role

Panthera is seeking a Community Conservation Senior Manager for its Zambia project, a senior technical and managerial role combining field implementation, community engagement, multi-stakeholder coordination, fundraising and scientific communication. The manager leads all aspects of the integrated community conservation programme across the Greater Kafue Ecosystem and the Kafue-KAZA corridor, in partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife, The Nature Conservancy and local communities. The start date is 1 November 2026 on a 1-year fixed-term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design of community conservation models integrating carnivore coexistence, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, community governance and sustainable livelihoods, and champion the Wildlife Values programme.
• Drive the establishment and legal gazettement of the Njoko-Loanja Community Conservancy (7,000-20,000 km2) with communities, traditional authorities, DNPW and the Forestry Department.
• Support the formation of Community Natural Resource Management Committees, including participatory mapping, boundary setting, a natural resource use plan and a community-led constitution.
• Oversee capacity building for committee executive committees and community outreach.
• Manage the Wildlife Values programme, including wildlife sightings data collection, verification and incentive disbursement, and support livelihood projects such as ecotourism, carbon markets and women's empowerment initiatives.
• Oversee Community Conservation Officers, HWC mitigation measures and incident response, and track HWC trends.
• Oversee community-based wildlife monitoring, camera traps, censuses and a species inventory, and ensure data informs evaluation and science outputs.

Required profile

• Existing legal work authorization in Zambia; Panthera cannot sponsor work visas.
• Senior leadership experience in community conservation, fundraising and donor relations.
