Junior Cybersecurity Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Junior Cybersecurity Engineer to join our security team. This position is ideal for recent graduates or early‑career professionals who are passionate about protecting systems, networks, cloud platforms, and applications from cyber threats.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor security alerts from SIEM platforms and investigate suspicious events.
• Perform first‑level triage, escalation, and documentation of potential incidents.
• Assist senior engineers with malware analysis, containment, evidence collection, and post‑incident reviews.
• Run vulnerability scans, review reports, prioritize findings, coordinate remediation and verify fixes.
• Support identity and access management tasks such as user provisioning, MFA implementation, privileged access reviews and password policy management.
• Manage endpoint protection tools, EDR/XDR solutions, device compliance and encryption.
• Administer firewalls, VPNs, network segmentation, and secure remote‑access solutions.
• Assist with cloud security posture reviews across Azure, AWS and Google Cloud, including identity management and logging.
• Contribute to governance and compliance activities (ISO 27001, POPIA, GDPR, NIST, CIS Controls) and help deliver security awareness campaigns.

Required profile

• Graduate or early‑career professional with a strong interest in cybersecurity.
• Ability to work collaboratively with security engineers, SOC analysts, infrastructure, development and cloud teams.
• Eager to learn across multiple security domains and contribute to continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Experience with SIEM platforms for security monitoring.
• Vulnerability scanning tools: Nessus, Qualys, Rapid7, Microsoft Defender Vulnerability Management.
• Identity & Access Management: Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Okta, Ping Identity.
• Endpoint protection/E‑DR solutions: Microsoft Defender, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Sophos.
• Network security: firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco, Check Point), VPNs, network segmentation, proxy solutions.
• Cloud platforms: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with security frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, CIS Controls.
