Java Software Engineer

About the role

This position is for a Java Software Engineer who will help design and maintain the security architecture of a high‑volume payments platform processing millions of transactions daily. Based in Cape Town, you will work on secure‑by‑default libraries, tooling and automation that enable developers across the organisation to write safe code effortlessly.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Java libraries for encryption, authentication, logging and other security primitives used by all product teams.
• Integrate security checks into CI/CD pipelines and IDE tooling to detect vulnerabilities before code is committed.
• Build automated remediation workflows for dependency upgrades, configuration drift and vulnerability fixes.
• Create self‑service dashboards that give teams visibility into their security posture.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering groups to ensure security standards are embedded throughout the development lifecycle.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional software engineering experience with strong Java expertise.
• Hands‑on experience modifying CI/CD pipelines and adding security tooling.
• Solid understanding of AWS services and Infrastructure‑as‑Code repositories.
• Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Bash or Go for automation tasks.
• Exposure to security standards (ISO 27001, SOC 2) and modern authentication protocols (OAuth2/OIDC) is a plus.
