Import Controller – Air & Sea Freight

About the role

The company is a well‑established clearing and forwarding firm seeking an experienced Import Controller to manage air and sea freight imports. You will ensure smooth cargo movement, compliance with customs regulations, and high‑quality service for clients.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage the full import process for air and sea freight shipments.
• Liaise with overseas agents, shipping lines, airlines, transporters, customs and clients.
• Arrange customs clearance and ensure compliance with SARS regulations.
• Prepare and process all import documentation accurately.
• Monitor shipment progress and provide regular client updates.
• Resolve shipment delays, customs queries and operational issues.
• Arrange delivery of cargo to its final destination.
• Verify supplier invoices and ensure accurate client billing.
• Maintain accurate shipment records and operational files.
• Ensure shipments meet company KPIs and service level agreements.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
• Relevant qualification in Freight Forwarding, Logistics, Supply Chain or Customs (advantageous).
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as an Import Controller in a clearing & forwarding environment.
• Solid experience handling both air and sea imports.
• Knowledge of customs and SARS procedures.
• Experience with CargoWise or similar freight‑forwarding software.
• Strong understanding of Incoterms and international shipping documentation.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
