ICP Technician – ICP-OES / ICP-MS (Johannesburg)

About the role

We are looking for detail‑oriented ICP Technicians to operate, maintain, and optimise ICP‑OES and/or ICP‑MS instruments in our Johannesburg laboratory. The role supports elemental analysis for quality control, research and compliance activities within an ISO‑accredited environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate ICP‑OES and/or ICP‑MS for routine and non‑routine elemental analysis following approved SOPs.
• Prepare, digest, dilute, filter and extract samples, ensuring proper chain‑of‑custody and integrity.
• Perform instrument calibration, standardisation, performance verification and generate accurate analytical reports.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance, troubleshoot instrument issues and coordinate service with vendors.
• Maintain quality control checks (blanks, duplicates, spikes, certified reference materials) and participate in proficiency testing.
• Document all activities in laboratory records and assist with method validation and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Science or related field.
• 2–5 years of hands‑on experience with ICP‑OES and/or ICP‑MS instrumentation.
• Experience working in a commercial laboratory, preferably ISO‑17025, GLP or GMP accredited.
