Head of Operations & Maintenance – Renewable Energy

About the role

Our client is seeking an experienced Head of Operations & Maintenance to lead the operational strategy and performance of a growing portfolio of renewable energy assets in South Africa. Reporting to senior executive management, the role is responsible for maximising plant availability, production and asset lifespan.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Operations & Maintenance strategy in alignment with business objectives.
• Lead and manage the O&M function to maximise plant availability, production and asset lifespan.
• Drive operational excellence through continuous improvement, performance monitoring and governance.
• Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, regulatory requirements and company policies.
• Manage departmental budgets and resource planning.
• Lead, mentor and develop multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Monitor key operational and HSE performance indicators and implement improvement initiatives.
• Oversee reporting to executive management, project boards and internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with engineering, construction, asset management, finance, legal and development teams.
• Build strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, regulators and industry stakeholders.
• Promote a culture of safety, operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (additional qualification in Law or Commerce advantageous).
• Minimum 10 years’ operations and maintenance experience in renewable energy or large‑scale industrial projects.
• Strong understanding of renewable energy asset management and power generation operations.
• Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Sound knowledge of power generation regulations, governance and safety standards.
• Experience managing operational budgets and business performance.
• Excellent communication, analytical and stakeholder management skills.
