About the role
Lead and manage the Clinical Unit for the KwaZulu‑Natal Provincial Administration, reporting to the CEO and Medical School Dean. The role ensures the delivery of high‑quality clinical care, governance and education across the department.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of clinical care, ethics and governance while overseeing unit administration and staff performance.
- Provide specialist outpatient, consultation and emergency services, including after‑hours consultant cover.
- Lead training programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students and allied health staff.
- Develop and implement clinical protocols in collaboration with surgical disciplines and support clinical audit and quality‑assurance programmes.
- Promote outreach, strengthen regional cardiothoracic surgical services and ensure efficient, cost‑effective resource use.
- Collaborate with UKZN, CMSA, health‑system partners and national/international thoracic surgical units, and support research and academic development.
