Handyman - Industrial Properties

About the role

AIDC, a government-owned public entity supporting the South African automotive industry, is recruiting a Handyman for its Facilities Maintenance Management Department at the Rosslyn and Satellite sites. The post reports to the Technical Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and is on a permanent employment contract with a three-month probation period.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance on AIDC industrial and commercial properties, including preventative maintenance, emergency repairs and routine tasks to minimise downtime.
• Attend first-line calls on equipment failures and carry out repairs and inspections across all sites, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and building renovations.
• Identify faults and log them through the helpdesk, inspect meters and report damage, and replace simple items such as light bulbs and desks.
• Manage maintenance stock and tools, perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on machinery and structural elements, and assist with project work and installations.
• Provide driving services and physical support when moving boxes are required.
• Work with skilled builders to lay bricks, tiles, concrete cinder, glass, gypsum and terracotta blocks, and to carry out plastering and repair of brick and cement structures.
• Assist trade artisans with basic operations and mediate minor disputes between parties.
• Ensure all OH&S regulations are followed.

Required profile

• Matric certificate (Grade 12).
• At least 3 years of relevant experience as a handyman in the built environment, with exposure to basic and technical tools.

• Remuneration of R268 264.31 per annum (TCOE).
