Handyman - Facilities Maintenance

About the role

AIDC, a government-owned public entity supporting the South African automotive industry, is recruiting a Handyman for its Facilities Maintenance Management Department. The post is permanent with a three-month probation and reports to the Technical Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. The work covers general maintenance of AIDC's industrial and commercial properties, including preventative maintenance, emergency repairs and routine tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Attend to first-line calls on equipment failures and carry out repairs and inspections across all sites, including general building maintenance, basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and renovations.
• Identify maintenance faults and log them through the helpdesk, inspect meters and report damage, and make basic repairs such as replacing light bulbs and desks.
• Manage maintenance stock and tools, perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on machinery and structural elements, assist with projects and installations, and comply with OH&S regulations.
• Provide driving services and physical support when needed.
• Work with skilled builders to lay building materials and carry out plastering, and assist trade artisans with basic operations.

Required profile

• Matric certificate (Grade 12).
• At least 3 years of relevant experience as a handyman in the built environment, with exposure to basic and technical tools.
