GIS Intern – Smart Mobility Cluster

About the role

The CSIR Smart Mobility Cluster is looking for two motivated GIS Interns to support the development, maintenance and governance of strategic geospatial infrastructure that underpins transport planning, mobility research and spatial analytics.

Key responsibilities

• Support inventory, acquisition, organisation and maintenance of GIS datasets.
• Perform spatial data cleaning, validation, topology correction and quality assurance.
• Develop and maintain metadata and dataset documentation.
• Assist with transport network data management, including roads and public transport routes.
• Support geodatabase management and version‑control activities.
• Contribute to data standardisation and GIS governance initiatives.
• Prepare maps, reports and technical documentation.
• Participate in stakeholder engagements and data collection activities as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science degree in GIS, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing or a related field (post‑graduate degree advantageous).
• Basic understanding of spatial data management and mapping principles.
• Good analytical, communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro and/or QGIS.
