Import Controller / Freight Controller

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Import Controller / Freight Controller for a leading freight and logistics company. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of import shipments, communicates well with clients and service providers, and can manage shipments from start to delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Manage import shipments from booking through to final delivery.
• Liaise with clients, overseas agents, shipping lines, airlines, clearing agents and transport providers.
• Track shipments and provide clients with timely status updates.
• Check shipping documents for accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate customs clearance and delivery arrangements.
• Identify and resolve shipment delays, documentation queries and other operational issues.
• Maintain accurate shipment records and update internal systems.
• Ensure shipments are handled in line with client requirements and company procedures.

Required profile

• Matric is essential.
• Qualification in freight forwarding, logistics or supply chain management advantageous.
• 3–5 years’ experience in import or freight controlling.
• Experience coordinating shipments and working with shipping documentation.
• Good knowledge of import processes and customs clearance procedures.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple shipments and meet deadlines.
• Confident computer skills and experience using freight management systems.
