Financial Aid Analyst

About the role

This position sits within an established social assistance environment and supports operational excellence by evaluating personal financial data so that financial assistance and grants are allocated equitably. It links applicants with decision-making committees, gathering sensitive information respectfully, formulating objective grant proposals and communicating outcomes clearly. The schedule is Monday to Thursday 8:30-16:30, with a 14:30 finish on Fridays; hybrid work may be available after training.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate applicants' financial health by reviewing income, assets, debts, expenses, credit reports and supporting documents
• Calculate monthly disposable income to assess capacity to meet obligations
• Engage beneficiaries empathetically during information gathering and feedback phases
• Prepare and present grant proposals and fee-subsidy recommendations to the Case Committee and Admissions Committee weekly
• Work with Social Workers to include non-financial factors in decisions
• Maintain accurate electronic records of analyses, approvals, correspondence and inquiries
• Monitor changes in beneficiaries' circumstances and recommend adjustments to assistance plans
• Run the end-to-end grant renewal process and manage client communications
• Support ad-hoc welfare data projects and operations

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Financial Analyst, Financial Advisor, Credit Analyst, Personal Finance professional or Debt Counsellor
• A B.Com degree in finance or a closely related major is highly advantageous but not essential
• Credit and criminal clear
