Profit Center Manager - Commercial Property, SSA

About the role

AIG is hiring a Profit Center Manager for its Commercial Property division covering Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), based in Johannesburg. The role manages all Divisional Underwriting, sets and drives production and profitability goals, and holds direct accountability for the profitability, penetration and volume of the business in the region.

Key responsibilities

• Lead production growth, remedial action on shortfalls, and own the Profit Centre P&L
• Build and run strategic business plans, production and expense budgets, and estimate and reporting processes
• Manage SLAs with Operations and oversee the Property AQI strategy
• Underwrite risks within authority, give technical direction to underwriters, negotiate with clients and brokers, and supervise large programs
• Manage the portfolio, follow claims trends, and ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and reporting requirements
• Develop new business, cross-sell with other profit centres, and represent AIG on industry bodies
• Set objectives, provide training and development, and manage succession planning with HR
• Control expenses within budget and ensure audit and regulatory compliance

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent); insurance qualification required
• FAIS compliant and passed the Regulatory Examination (RE5)
• 7-10 years of short-term insurance experience, including at least 3 years in the line of business
• At least 2 years of business management experience
