Finance Controller

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Finance Controller to lead the day‑to‑day financial operations of our growing international import‑export business. Based in Klapmuts, the role reports directly to the UK‑based Managing Director and supports the leadership team across the UK, South Africa and Ireland with accurate, timely financial information.

Key responsibilities

• Produce accurate Management Information (MI) reports for senior leadership.
• Prepare weekly cash‑flow forecasts and monitor performance against monthly targets.
• Develop and manage monthly supplier payment plans and optimise the Import Finance facility.
• Execute month‑end and year‑end accounting processes, including GL reconciliations, pre‑payments and accruals.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis activities.
• Assist with annual statutory audits and related documentation.
• Lead and mentor the Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger Controllers, overseeing daily cashbook, purchase and sales ledger processing.
• Monitor debtor balances, drive overdue collections and manage working capital.
• Prepare and submit UK, Ireland and France VAT returns and review customs and import duty transactions.
• Administer monthly payroll and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
• Maintain employee records, support HR administration and contribute to policy implementation.
• Collaborate with Sales, Purchasing and Operations to resolve issues and improve processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a finance controller or senior accounting role within an international environment.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to work in a fast‑paced, changing environment.
• Excellent organisational and leadership skills, with experience managing a small finance team.
• Detail‑oriented with a focus on accuracy and meeting strict deadlines.
