Fabrication Team Leader

About the role

Our client, a well‑established engineering and manufacturing company, is looking for a Fabrication Team Leader to drive the performance of its fabrication department. The role combines strong people management with deep technical knowledge of welding, grinding and steel production processes.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and implement continuous‑improvement initiatives aligned with lean manufacturing principles.
• Lead the fabrication team to meet cost‑effective material handling targets and on‑time delivery commitments.
• Oversee tailoring and welding operations, ensuring high‑quality output that satisfies customer specifications.
• Maintain compliance with SHEQ standards and ISO 9001 & ISO 45001 management systems.

Required profile

• Minimum NQF 5 tertiary qualification in a technical or management discipline.
• At least 10 years of hands‑on experience in fabrication or manufacturing environments.
• Strong business acumen to run the department as a mini‑business.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

Required skills

• Technical drawing interpretation

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of steel production processes
• Lean manufacturing methodologies
