Engineering Manager

About the role

The Engineering Manager will lead the engineering function at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital, reporting to the Hospital Manager. The role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient operation of all plant, equipment and infrastructure projects within the hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and technical direction to the engineering department, implementing maintenance strategies to maximise plant efficiency and availability.
• Manage the team’s performance, recruitment, development and retention, and oversee all administrative functions such as reporting, document control and expenditure validation.
• Drive strategic initiatives to reduce utilities costs, review contracts and implement plant modifications.
• Prepare budgets, lead contract negotiations and resolve engineering project disputes.
• Ensure compliance with OHS Act, construction regulations, SANS and other relevant legislation.

Required profile

• Grade 12 National Certificate, B‑Tech or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical (Heavy Current) Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in operations, engineering maintenance or similar environment, preferably within a hospital.
• Proven leadership and people‑management experience.
• Knowledge of contract negotiation, OHS regulations, facilities management, financial and project management practices.
