Employee Relations Officer

About the role

The Employee Relations Officer will support the Head Office HR team by managing all labour relations administration and ensuring compliance with South African labour legislation. This role involves close collaboration with the Group HR Manager and provides day‑to‑day HR advice to managers across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain up‑to‑date HR/IR filing systems and labour relations documentation.
• Coordinate travel arrangements for departmental activities.
• Provide timely HR/IR advice on provident fund, COIDA, disabilities and other labour issues.
• Conduct quarterly compliance audits at branch level.
• Monitor changes to legislation such as the Employment Equity Act, BCEA, LRA, UIF, COIDA and OHSA.
• Draft, update and distribute HR/LR policies, procedures, newsletters and legal posters.
• Prepare documentation for Department of Labour inspections and manage CCMA trackers and set‑downs.
• Update union membership records and compile monthly statistics for HR leadership.
• Maintain spreadsheets tracking appointments, resignations and bargaining council data.

Required profile

• Matric or equivalent senior certificate.
• Minimum of 2 years relevant HR or labour relations experience.
• Qualification in Human Resource Management.
• Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation.
• Advantageous: proficiency in a second language (read, write, speak).
