Domestic Assistant – Catering Team

About the role

The NHS Lanarkshire catering team is looking for a Domestic Assistant to help deliver safe, nutritious food and beverage services to patients, staff and visitors. You will work across the hospital catering environment, supporting food preparation, hygiene compliance and communication with clinical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation, production, heating and reheating of meals for patients, staff and visitors.
• Maintain food hygiene standards and complete required records to meet HACCP and statutory obligations.
• Work in all catering areas, including freezers, fridges and cold rooms.
• Record patient menu selections, diets and standard meals, ensure nursing sign‑off and relay information to wards.
• Support new staff members and collaborate with the multidisciplinary catering team.

Required profile

• Knowledge of catering standards and related procedures.
• Ability to work effectively with people and within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Capability to perform tasks efficiently in a busy environment.
• Willingness to obtain an Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate.
• Basic information‑technology proficiency.

Required skills

• Food Hygiene certification (Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate).
• Basic IT skills.
