Diesel Mechanic – Technician for Truck Fleet

About the role

The Technician (Diesel Mechanic) will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of a fleet of trucks within a logistics company. The role requires hands‑on experience with Scania and Volvo trucks, including the ability to rebuild gearboxes, engines and differentials.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the maintenance team operates in line with company standards.
• Rebuild differentials, gearboxes and engines as a core skill.
• Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results to determine corrective actions.
• Prepare detailed work plans after fully scoping issues.
• Perform inspections according to manufacturers’ specifications, covering suspensions, steering and exhaust systems.
• Service and repair trucks in the depot according to scheduled jobs.
• Identify spare‑part requirements and maintain accurate inventory records.
• Communicate with service advisors, team members and operations to manage service intervals and ensure timely completion.
• Conduct field visits for emergencies or sudden breakdowns and test‑drive repaired vehicles to verify performance.

Required profile

• Willingness to work shifts, overtime, standby and call‑outs, including nights and weekends.
• Qualified diesel mechanic with a recognised Trade Certificate (essential).
• At least 5 years post‑trade experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior position.
• Valid driver’s licence – Code 14 (advantageous).
• Knowledge of electrical, electronic systems and hydraulics (advantageous).
• Reliable transport and residence within the East Rand area or willingness to relocate.
• Independent, self‑motivated and proactive with strong planning abilities.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English and/or Afrikaans.
