Deputy Manager – Municipal Health Services

About the role

The Deputy Manager for Municipal Health Services will lead the delivery of environmental health programmes within Mopani District. The role involves policy development, implementation, monitoring and coordination with multiple sector departments to protect public health.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, monitor and evaluate environmental health policies, guidelines, standards and operational plans.
• Oversee implementation of the Departmental and Environmental Health Strategic Plan.
• Facilitate district forums such as environmental health, waste‑management, food control and outbreak response teams.
• Lead skills‑development initiatives and training for Environmental Health Practitioners.
• Ensure effective governance and efficient provisioning of municipal health services across the district.

Required profile

• Grade 12 Certificate plus a Diploma/B.Tech in Public Health or Environmental Health; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Minimum 3 years experience in local‑government environment and 5 years as a Chief/Senior Environmental Health Officer.
• Registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa as an Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to obtain security clearance.
