Deli Manager – Lead Fresh, People & Results

About the role

Pick n Pay Hypermarkets is seeking an experienced Deli Manager to lead a high‑performing fresh‑food department. You will be responsible for delivering exceptional product quality, driving sales, and fostering a customer‑first culture in a fast‑paced retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing Deli team.
• Drive departmental sales, profitability and gross‑margin performance.
• Maintain product quality, freshness, food‑safety and hygiene standards.
• Ensure attractive merchandising and product presentation.
• Manage stock ordering, FIFO rotation, shrinkage, waste and inventory control.
• Comply with SOPs, company policies and food‑safety legislation.
• Plan and execute promotional activities to maximise sales.
• Handle departmental administration – scheduling, leave, invoices and reporting.
• Collaborate with Store Management to achieve operational and commercial goals.

Required profile

• Matric/Grade 12 qualification.
• 3‑5 years experience in a retail fresh‑food environment (Deli, Hot Kitchen, Cold Kitchen or Ready‑to‑Eat).
• 2+ years leadership or management experience.
• Proven track record managing margin, shrinkage, waste control and fresh‑food operations.
• Strong knowledge of food‑safety legislation and merchandising principles.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and a customer‑first mindset.
