Data Compliance Specialist

About the role

Takealot Group, one of South Africa's most prominent e-commerce entities, is expanding its internal governance team and is recruiting a Data Compliance Specialist based in Cape Town. The role sits at the intersection of data privacy, regulatory adherence and customer experience, and involves handling data subject requests so that the company stays compliant with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI) and other data regulations. The team is described as dynamic and hyper-growth oriented, and the postholder works across several brands within the Group.

Key responsibilities

• Manage complex workflows around personal data and act as the main point of contact for data subject requests, tracking and resolving them within agreed SLAs
• Handle incoming requests through multiple channels and platforms, and run eligibility assessments to validate each request before processing
• Work with internal stakeholders to track request status and clear roadblocks
• Run regular internal audits of compliance practices, standard operating procedures and policies
• Support the Information Officer by reviewing and flagging sensitive information
• Identify and report regulatory risks to management
• Propose and implement improvements to streamline data handling systems and efficiency across the Group

Required profile

• Solid foundation in data administration and a strong grasp of compliance procedures
• At least two years of proven experience in a similar specialist or compliance-focused role; a Senior Certificate is the minimum educational requirement
• Previous experience in e-commerce, tech start-ups or digital platforms is highly advantageous
• Comfortable with complaints handling, showing patience and professionalism with users and internal staff
