Coordinator, National Tissue Bank & Advanced Wet Skills Lab

About the role

The University of Pretoria seeks a dedicated Coordinator to lead the National Tissue Bank and the Postgraduate Advanced Wet Skills Laboratory within the Department of Anatomy. This position combines scientific expertise, laboratory management, and donor liaison to support teaching, research, and clinical training.

Key responsibilities

• Manage storage and maintain the human tissue data repository in compliance with the National Health Act, using electronic data management systems and Excel‑based databases.
• Ensure full compliance with legislation, institutional policies, and ethical guidelines.
• Build and maintain donor relationships with Pretoria‑based hospitals and liaise with donors and families on consent and donation procedures.
• Oversee operational processes of the Wet Skills Lab, supervise technical assistants, handle data processing, and engage internal and external stakeholders.
• Process donated bodies, create prosections according to specifications, and ensure accurate labeling, cataloguing, and storage.
• Stay updated on medico‑legal regulations, generate purchase orders and pro‑formas, and market the Tissue Bank and lab services.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Biological Science with experience in human anatomical prosection or dissection.
• At least four years of experience handling human tissue and skeletal remains.
• Laboratory maintenance experience and a background in teaching or tutoring students.
• Administrative management experience.
• Valid driver’s licence and a Category D Professional Driving Permit.
