Consultant - Technical Accounting, Group Accounting

About the role

MTN is hiring a Consultant in Technical Accounting within its Group Technical Accounting team. The role delivers strategy development, implementation and operational support for accounting standards (OHADA/IFRS) across the Group, working with finance teams, internal audit and external auditors.

Key responsibilities

• Help execute strategies for compliance with accounting standards and incorporate OHADA/IFRS developments, and provide direction, frameworks, models and roadmaps
• Formulate and operationalise internal accounting policies and procedures, and align reporting frameworks with regulatory requirements
• Monitor accounting standards, support training and implementation, and run post-implementation reviews
• Collaborate with Group FP&A teams and the Group Finance team on technical accounting queries, projects and reviews
• Support technical accounting due diligence for M&A targets and integration of financial reporting systems after acquisition
• Review central contracts for compliance and risk, and support position papers on accounting standards
• Research complex accounting issues, prepare technical memos, and train finance and accounting teams
• Update financial statement templates, support annual and interim statements, review disclosures, and work with external auditors on restatements
• Keep the Group Financial Policy Manual up to date, and escalate and resolve governance issues

Required profile

• Honours, postgraduate or master's degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field
• CA(SA) (Chartered Accountant South Africa) certification required
• At least 3 years of experience in technical accounting
• Experience in financial reporting is desirable; hands-on experience in a technical accounting team
• Pan-African multi-cultural experience is advantageous; prior telecom experience preferred

Required skills

• Knowledge of OHADA/IFRS accounting standards and their application to telecom companies
• Support for group reorganisations, revenue recognition, lease accounting and impairment assessments
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis, modelling and reporting
• Proficiency in English
