Command Centre Intern (One-Year Internship)

About the role

Ecentric Payment Systems handles one-to-many payment relationships for its clients, covering payment compliance and security. This entry-level one-year internship reports to the Operations Support Manager and focuses on monitoring real-time EFT processing and online transactions, spotting and reporting issues affecting the production environment, Ecentric products, networks and applications, and helping maintain near 100% uptime.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor systems: perform real-time checks on servers, data processing and connectivity
• Recognize and escalate system alerts within set SLA/OLA timelines
• Investigate, diagnose and resolve technical issues related to servers, data and connectivity
• Manage and document incidents, following escalation procedures when needed
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues and improve processes
• Take part in post-incident reviews and suggest improvements

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar is advantageous; graduates are encouraged to apply
• Between 6 months and 1 year of experience in technical support or IT operations is advantageous
• Understanding of systems monitoring, the EFT switching environment, batch processing and file transfer protocols such as SFTP, XCOM and CD
• Ability to follow troubleshooting procedures and alert management
• Reliable transport to get to the onsite location in Cape Town, as the work involves 24/7 shifts

Working conditions

• Onsite in Cape Town, with a 24/7 rotational schedule: 10-day cycle of four 12-hour shifts (two days, two nights) followed by six days off including two standby days
• Core competencies include technical proficiency, strong sense of urgency, effective communication, problem-solving, attention to detail and a proactive attitude
