Colour Matcher / Tint & Colour Technician (Decorative Paints)

About the role

Our client, a well‑established decorative paints manufacturer, is looking for an experienced Colour Matcher / Tint & Colour Technician to join the production team in Cape Town. The role focuses on achieving precise colour consistency, supporting quality standards and meeting customer specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Match paint colours to customer samples and approved standards.
• Tint and adjust paint batches to achieve exact colour consistency.
• Conduct colour corrections and shade adjustments as required.
• Operate colour‑matching equipment such as spectrophotometers.
• Perform quality control checks on finished products.
• Maintain accurate formulation and batch records.
• Collaborate with Production, Laboratory, Quality and Technical teams.
• Ensure compliance with company quality and safety procedures.
• Investigate and resolve colour‑related production issues.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12; qualification in Paint Technology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field is advantageous.
• 3–5 years’ experience in colour matching within paint manufacturing or coatings.
• Experience with decorative or architectural paints is highly advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of pigments, tinting systems and paint formulations.
• Understanding of quality control procedures and ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Operation of spectrophotometers (e.g., Datacolor, X‑Rite).
• Colour measurement and colour matching techniques.
• Paint tinting and formulation.
• Quality control procedures in a manufacturing environment.
• Computer literacy – Microsoft Office.
