Clinical Nurse (PB Qualified) – 12‑Month Emergency Department Role

About the role

The Clinical Nurse will provide 12 months of specialised, person‑centred care in the Emergency Department of Netcare Chris Barnard Memorial Hospital. The role combines direct patient care, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and emergency response responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a clinical resource to assist staff in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting nursing care.
• Communicate with families and health professionals, acting as a patient advocate when needed.
• Maintain clear communication between nursing management and the unit to resolve care issues.
• Assess, plan and deliver advanced nursing care in line with SOPs and nursing theory.
• Initiate, direct and maintain emergency treatment (RESUS) for any patient in the hospital.
• Interview patients and families to gather background information and identify immediate and long‑term needs.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to develop and implement care plans.
• Conduct rounds with physicians, develop nursing care plans and review patient conditions.
• Evaluate patient needs, create individualized care plans and coordinate services.
• Prepare shift documentation reflecting patient status, staffing ratios and any problems.
• Inform the unit manager of activities and emerging issues.

Required profile

• Post‑basic nursing qualification (PB qualified) and registration to practice.
• Experience in an emergency department or acute care setting.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication and documentation abilities.
• Capability to perform advanced life support (RESUS) and emergency interventions.
