Civil Technician – Water Infrastructure Projects

About the role

We are seeking a practical, hands‑on Civil Technician to support inspections, field measurements, installations and maintenance on water and civil infrastructure projects based in Pretoria. The role involves collecting accurate site data, assisting with logging equipment, updating asset registers and ensuring safe, efficient operations on site.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct site inspections of civil/water assets such as meter chambers, manholes and pipelines, recording precise measurements and observations.
• Install, commission, retrieve and maintain field instruments and data loggers; keep asset registers up‑to‑date.
• Prepare daily work plans, route maps and material/tool lists; complete data sheets and backups according to procedure.
• Respond to emergency call‑outs and travel regularly within Pretoria, with occasional inter‑provincial visits.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to resolve technical issues.
• Produce basic drawings, sketches and as‑built documentation; maintain job cards and progress reports.

Required profile

• National Diploma or B.Tech in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years experience in water infrastructure within an engineering consulting environment.
• Experience in non‑revenue water activities, pressure management, leak detection and construction supervision.
• At least 1 year exposure to project management tasks such as planning, scheduling and stakeholder engagement.
• Valid Code B driver’s licence and willingness to travel within the Northern Gauteng region.
• Basic knowledge of the OHS Act and construction compliance standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Familiarity with data‑capture tools.
• Basic AutoCAD skills.
