Associate Civil Engineer

About the role

Zutari is seeking an Associate Civil Engineer to lead complex infrastructure system designs across utilities, bulk earthworks, roads and industrial structures. The role combines technical design leadership with client and stakeholder management in a fast‑moving, multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design of major infrastructure systems, including utilities, bulk earthworks, roads and industrial structures.
• Drive delivery of 3D modelling and coordinate multidisciplinary structural and utility infrastructure on projects.
• Oversee production of technical reports, specifications and tender documentation.
• Manage a design team – performance, workload, task delegation and mentoring.
• Support business development by preparing and coordinating tenders/bids and contributing to work‑winning initiatives.
• Ensure clear understanding of project goals and manage client expectations throughout delivery.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years overall civil engineering design experience, with at least 5 years post‑registration (PR Eng or PR Tech) in South Africa.
• BSc/BEng/BTech in Civil Engineering and registration with ECSA.
• Proven experience leading design teams on major infrastructure projects.
• Strong client‑facing and work‑winning capabilities.
• Solid knowledge of civil engineering analysis software and relevant codes, standards and practices.
