Chemical Plant Operator

About the role

The Chemical Plant Operator will coordinate and direct maintenance and repair services for a specific process within a production line at Sasol’s Secunda facility. You will manage control panels, perform complex troubleshooting, and ensure safe, sustainable operation of plant equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide regular feedback to supervisor on work progress.
• Participate in risk assessments and uphold safety legislation.
• Maintain good housekeeping and follow waste disposal procedures.
• Work independently while understanding business KPIs.
• Lead shift handover meetings and act as a main role during emergencies to restore plant operations.
• Conduct on‑the‑job coaching for learners and present on specific plant equipment.
• Perform IMS inspections to improve plant sustainability.
• Give input during toolbox talks to enhance safety.

Required profile

• Grade 12/N3 with Mathematics, Physical Science and English (NQF level 4/5).
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in a chemical or industrial plant environment.
• Ability to identify personal training needs and incorporate them into a development plan.
• Strong accountability and result‑driven mindset.
