Casual Cashier - Westville

About the role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for an experienced casual cashier for its Westville store. The role is part-time and involves supporting customer service at the point of sale while ensuring a world-class shopping experience. Applicants must be willing and able to work retail hours.

Key responsibilities

• Record customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system according to company policies and standard operating procedures, with zero tolerance for inaccuracies and fraud risk.
• Adhere to customer service policies, report complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management, and follow security policies.
• Process all purchases and payments (cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons) and handle loyalty cards of partner schemes.
• Manage cash flow, keep the till secure, and place cash in the drop safe according to SOPs.
• Handle daily takings confidentially, only discussing them with management.
• Approve and sign off line voids and price changes, and exchange merchandise and accept returns when authorised.
• Ensure outgoing stock, items and scripts are scanned and paid for.
• Recognise and report suspicious behaviour to management.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric; entry-level position.
• At least 6 months' experience in cashier or till operations.
• Sound numerical skills and strong command of English (written and oral).
• Basic customer service and willingness to work retail hours.
• Reliable transport and/or residence close to the store; South African citizen with clear credit and criminal records.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers.
• Knowledge of processing sales, refunds and payments.
• Computer literacy, including MS Office.
