Business Development Specialist

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Business Development Specialist to build and grow a specialist insurance portfolio focused on logistics, transport and cross‑border trade risks across the SADC and COMESA regions.

Key responsibilities

• Prospect, pitch and close new business with logistics operators, freight forwarders, clearing agents and cross‑border transporters.
• Develop and maintain a structured sales pipeline using CRM or pipeline management tools and report weekly on activity.
• Assess cross‑border transit exposures, support the development of appropriate insurance solutions and negotiate terms with insurers.
• Build and maintain relationships with industry contacts, logistics associations and insurance markets.

Required profile

• Minimum Bachelor of Commerce degree or other FSCA‑recognised qualification; RE5 certification advantageous.
• At least 5 years of new‑business development and client relationship management experience, preferably within logistics, road freight or freight forwarding.
• Proven track record of generating and closing new business and building a portfolio from a low base.
• Knowledge of cross‑border logistics, SADC/COMESA trade corridors and Goods in Transit insurance is a strong advantage.
