Business Development Manager - Food Segment

About the role

The Business Development Manager – Food Segment will lead sales and business development activities for ETG Curechem South Africa in the food raw‑material market. Reporting to senior management, the role is responsible for planning, organising and controlling all commercial actions across the South African market to meet the company’s growth and profitability targets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a sales and marketing strategy for the food segment, aligning with the broader business plan.
• Set performance targets for regions and individual team members and monitor progress.
• Conduct market reviews, product surveys and recommend new product introductions based on trends and volume potential.
• Drive profitability by managing monthly, quarterly and annual sales and gross‑profit targets.
• Identify, engage and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers, coordinating with procurement teams.
• Oversee procurement and stock management to ensure product availability and optimal turnover.
• Perform weekly gap analysis between actual sales and budget, coordinating with sales and procurement teams to close gaps.
• Support the sales team in preparing offers for top‑tier customers and negotiate long‑term contracts.

Required profile

• Proven experience in sales or business development within the food or raw‑material sector.
• Strong knowledge of the South African market and its regional dynamics.
• Ability to set and track performance targets and profitability metrics.
• Experience in supplier relationship management and procurement coordination.
• Excellent analytical skills for market research and sales gap analysis.
• Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and communicate effectively.
