Business Development Executive – Engineering, Rail, Mining & Manufacturing

About the role

We are a leading engineering, rail, mining and industrial manufacturing company seeking a Business Development Executive to drive growth across South Africa and the wider African market. You will identify new opportunities, nurture key accounts and deliver sales results for our full portfolio of products and services.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop new business opportunities within rail, mining, engineering and industrial sectors.
• Generate qualified leads through cold calling, networking, referrals and market research.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
• Conduct client visits, product presentations and technical sales meetings.
• Prepare quotations, proposals and tender submissions; negotiate commercial agreements and close sales.
• Promote the full range of Surtees Railway Supplies and Engineering products and services.
• Monitor industry trends, competitor activity and upcoming projects to spot opportunities.
• Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and CRM database; achieve monthly and annual sales targets.
• Manage customer enquiries, provide after‑sales support and expedite orders.
• Submit weekly sales activity reports, travel and expense reports, and assist with account collections.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Sales, Marketing, Business or Engineering (preferred).
• 5+ years of business development or technical sales experience, preferably in rail, mining, engineering or industrial sectors.
• Strong negotiation, relationship‑building and communication skills.
• Proven ability to achieve sales targets and work independently.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively across South Africa and Africa.
