Automation Technician

About the role

The Automation Technician will join the Maintenance team at Heineken’s Springs production site, supporting the manufacturing line in the fast‑moving consumer goods environment. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Team Leader, the role focuses on electrical and automation maintenance to keep production running efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret wiring diagrams and electrical drawings in a plant setting.
• Perform methodical fault finding and maintenance on motors, pumps, control panels and distribution boards.
• Maintain and troubleshoot sensor control systems, VSDs, HMIs, switchgear, AC motors, relay logic and temperature controllers.
• Repair production machinery, including bottling equipment, and carry out site‑related electrical work.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, OHS regulations and company housekeeping standards.
• Participate in mini‑business operating activities and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Matric Trade Certificate – Automation (N63‑5) or equivalent.
• Relevant experience in an FMCG electrical/automation environment, preferably with bottling machinery.
• Self‑motivated, innovative and able to work with limited supervision.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and capacity to work under pressure.
• Good communication skills and alignment with Heineken values.
• Willingness to work shifts and overtime as required.

Required skills

• Reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and electrical drawings.
• Fault finding on electrical motors, pumps, control panels and distribution boards.
• Sensor control, Variable Speed Drives (VSD), Human‑Machine Interface (HMI) systems.
• Switchgear, AC motors, relay logic and temperature controllers.
• Industrial instrumentation and PLC input/outputs.
• Experience with S7 PLCs and high‑speed machinery.
