Assistant Guesthouse Manager

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Assistant Guesthouse Manager to support daily operations at a boutique guesthouse on St Helena Island. This six‑month fixed‑term position offers the chance to work across accommodation, restaurant, and guest services in a dynamic, hospitality‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage guest check‑ins, departures and overall guest experience.
• Handle accommodation and restaurant reservations, invoicing and cash handling.
• Coordinate airport transfers and guest logistics.
• Oversee daily operations of the guesthouse and restaurant, ensuring staffing levels and efficiency.
• Assist with restaurant service during peak periods.
• Manage stock, purchasing and supplier relationships.
• Process creditors, debtors and basic financial administration.
• Maintain social media and marketing initiatives.
• Organise special events and functions.
• Maintain office systems, filing and reporting.

Required profile

• Valid passport or right to work in South Africa.
• Proven experience in hospitality or guesthouse management.
• Strong front‑office and reservation management experience.
• Good financial understanding (invoicing, basic accounts, cash handling).
• Excellent communication and guest‑service skills.
• Ability to multitask across front‑of‑house, admin and operations.
• Strong organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Willingness to work flexible hours in a hospitality environment.

What we offer
